My New Blog

It's been awhile since my last update, not a lot to report.  We permanent residents are just enjoying our wonderful Island amenities.  The Real Estate Market is still puttering along.  Here are the stats from 7/1/07-8/22/07:

There seems to be a flight to quality beach property at this time, which is having the greatest area of sales.  Investors are coming back into our market, could this indicate the up turn from the bottom?  I get plenty of calls everyday from prospective customers up north looking to begin their retirement home search.  Despite the doom and gloom in the media today, Florida is still a very hot retirement spot for those looking to escape the cold!

The City of Venice just added a new feature to their website, Community Videos.  If you have not been to our great little city on the gulf, check out the video for a mini tour.  You can also click on search homes for access to Venice Listings.  The city site is:  www.venicegov.com it is full of useful information for anyone considering relocating.

For those of you that have interest in the airport, I attended the airport advisory committee meeting on 8/8/07.  Basically my reason for attending was to find out how they stood on the growth situation.  I am happy to report they are anti jet traffic and are trying to discourage this.  The airport is in need of funding to make much needed repairs to hangers, runways and taxi ways.  They submitted a proposal to the advisory board to apply for government funding for these projects and it appears they were given the green light.  The rumor mill had the airport expanding, even to the point of tearing down surrounding homes to allow for the expansion.  They flatly denied any homes being destroyed and said they intended to operate in the same way they have for the last 17 years.  You can obtain more info on this at the City Website.

Well, that's about it, the airport being the big topic around town for discussion.  Hope you are all having a great summer.  Our kids started back to school Monday!

Feel free to call or email any questions or comments you have.

Thanks,

Janet
